Waad AlBawardi is a Saudi visual artist and molecular biology researcher based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Her creative practice explores complex patterns in nature and emergent behaviours in biological and physical systems while considering the role of environment and our embodied interactions with it as active forces within these evolving systems. Her work increasingly examines the separation and entanglement of systems, code and matter, simulation and life. She uses cross-disciplinary approaches merging scientific methods with creative exploration, incorporating creative programming, microscopy, and experimental lab techniques. As a live visual artist, she regularly collaborates with musicians to create reactive visual performances, recently working with Voka Gentle, Tara Pasveer, and Bell Lungs.
